7th Convocation 14,769 Graduands at the 7th Convocation Ceremony The 7th Convocation ceremony was preceded by a press conference on Monday, January 15 at the University's Headquarters in Abuja where the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu revealed that the ceremony scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 20, 2018 would be an exciting and historic one as the University would be graduating a total of 14,769 students; her largest ever number of students at a time. The Vice-chancellor further disclosed that the Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo having completed his PhD in Christian Theology would be part of the graduands and would be the first PhD student to be produced by the University. On Friday, January 19, 2018 the Convocation Lecture titled “Restructuring and True Federalism” was delivered by Professor Rev. Eghosa E. Osaghae, the Vice Chancellor of the Igbinedion Univeristy, Okada, Edo state at the Convocation arena of the University. This lecture was well attended by graduating students and staff of the University. Also in attendance were the Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the past Vice-chancellors of the University; Prof. Vincent Ado Tenebe and Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede. Dignitaries at the convocation lecture The convocation day began with a beehive of activities within and around the University Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja as graduands trooped in with family and friends as early as 6.30am. As the day progressed, more students, staff and guests flooded the environment awaiting the commencement of the event. In his Convocation address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu began by welcoming everyone to the great occasion. “Today” he said, “marks the 7th successful graduation ceremony of the students of this great University in various disciplines. Today we graduate 14,769 students across the disciplines, which marks the largest number of students so far graduated in this university. Among the undergraduate graduands are 41 first class holders. We are proud of this achievement in massive education of Nigerians in the most flexible educational system in the country”. Overall Best Graduating student – Fabiyi Adebayo Adekunle Overall Best Graduating student – Fabiyi Adebayo Adekunle Speaking on the graduation of the first PhD student of the University, His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former President and also a former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Vice-chancellor said, “It is a testimony to the power of an individual to live what he believes - the efficacy of education in human affairs; for His Excellency has, throughout his leadership periods, declared his faith in education as an instrument of social and personal change and championed long-lasting reforms that revolutionized education in Nigeria. His patience and perseverance in pursuing a doctorate degree program at his age, station and status in life, is a roadmap to all of us and clearly communicates three credos: you are never too old to learn, you are never too powerful to learn and you are never too full of learning” Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (Ph.d) Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (Ph.d) Also among the graduating Master’s degree students was Chief Chika Okpala popularly known as Chief Zebrudaya Okorigwe Nwogbo alias 4.30 who is graduating with an MBA in the Faculty of Management Sciences. He was one of our NOUN Ambassadors who were offered admission by the University.
